Shy / Awkward on Camera? No Problem. Watch This.
MEDIA TRAINING
Want to show up confident and authoritative on camera? Then pay attention because we’re going to give you some media training so you can prep before your Toronto podcast recording!
Let’s start with what to do OFF-camera first.
The clothes you wear determine how people judge you. If you want to be perceived as an authority, dress for what’s relevant in your industry. For example, a blue-collar manager might wear a blue shirt and blazer, rather than just a shirt.
Next up, let’s focus on your physiology: you need a relaxed nervous system in order to show up calm and centred on camera. Take 5 deep breaths in, and if you feel like you’re still short of breath, keep focusing on taking in DEEP breaths and exhaling slowly.
Alright, let’s get you in front of the camera now. How should you sit? Upright is generally preferred for maximum professionalism, and this is the 1 pose with which you can’t go wrong.
All right now lastly, how do you speak? You’ll speak slowly, deliberately, with a calm and low voice. Focus on your message. If you’re nervous, you’ll be tempted to rush through your script or message. Don’t.
Remember, you’re allowed and encouraged to have a good time doing this, and ultimately it’ll be just like speaking to a friend or colleague.
And honestly, you’ll love recording with our Producer, you’ll have a good time, and hopefully even some fun!
